Ident
FAQ |
Apple Macintosh Ident Help As with PC's there are a number of clients for Apple Macintosh systems. Some of these have built-in Ident servers, some don't. IrcLE IrcLE has a built-in ident daemon which you can configure from within the client. No other software is needed. For details, see the IrcLE help files or follow this link : http://www.ircle.com/reference/pref.shtml Homer As far as we can tell, Homer does not have built-in support for ident. As such you will need to use an external ident utility to connect to DALnet or switch to another IRC client which does support ident. MacBitchX Again, as best we can tell this does not have a built-in ident daemon. You will need an external ident utility to connect to DALnet using this program. MacIRC We beleive that this client DOES have an inbuilt ident daemon, however we have been unable to locate any documentation for it. Snak With thanks to the Author of Snak, the following steps should resolve any ident issues experienced while using this client. Mac OS9 : Snak uses a built-in ident server. It is always active and no configuration is necessary. Mac OS X 10.2 : An ident server is installed by default , but it must be enabled using the tool that comes with Snak in the "Enable Ident for OS X" folder. Mac OS X 10.3 : No ident server is installed by default but Snak comes with a tool to install one. No configuration is necessary when ident is enabled and installed, but if you use a wireless connection it must be configured to let ident work correctly. See the Snak manual for further details Stand Alone Ident Daemons
The following programs are stand-alone utilites that provide Ident support for those using a client which does not have an inbulit ident server. DAEMON : ftp://ftp.stairways.com/stairways/unsupported/daemon-12.sit.bin This is an apparently unsupported set of freeware daemons for the MAC platform. It provides Ident, Finger, Daytime & Whois support. Installation Instructions
